Support Beyond Sympathy: The MCM Fund assists families who have lost a child by covering funeral, memorial, and essential living expenses.
The average funeral cost now exceeds $8,000 nationally.
Nearly half of bereaved parents identify funeral costs as a top financial need.
Many families rely on credit cards or loans just to say goodbye.
Our goal is simple: no parent should have to choose a funeral based on what they can afford.
How We Work
Partnership: We work directly with hospital social workers at major institutions like Dana-Farber and Boston Children's Hospital.
Direct Payment: We pay funeral homes directly—up to $5,000 per family—ensuring funds are used exactly as intended.
Discretionary Support: We provide up to $1,000 for immediate needs, such as food and clothing, for families attending the service.
Who We Helped This Year
While we protect the privacy of every family, these are the real lives behind the numbers.
The Single Mother: We supported the mother of a three-year-old boy who passed away from leukemia complications. A single parent on unpaid leave, she stayed by his side for every moment of his final hospitalization. Your donations covered burial costs so she could honor him without financial ruin.
The Devoted Caregivers: We helped the family of a seven-year-old girl who battled a rare, aggressive cancer. Her parents spent months at her bedside through surgeries and chemotherapy. The MCM Fund provided a grant to cover funeral expenses, easing the burden after an unimaginable loss.
The Family Traveling for Care: We supported the family of a teenage boy who died from metastatic osteosarcoma. His family traveled back and forth for his care at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Hospital. We covered the cost of funeral arrangements so they could say goodbye with dignity.
